Zorits crowned CPL 2010 Champions

April 26 2010,11.00pm

Reported by Kamlesh Jadhav

After a week's time of huge excitement, the CPL's inaugural season has come to an end in style. In the finals, Zorits emerged as CPL Championship winners in a thriller against Strikers, the only team who marched into the finals undefeated. It was a very tough and memorable contest, which lasted for almost 3 hours with various moments of make and break.

The CPL Closing ceremony started in the late evening with the arrival of the Chief Guests Nattu, Gayathri and little angel Diya. Diya cut the ribbon in style and the media was seen all over the place. All franchises and team owners attended the closing ceremony in person. Especially Owner of "Zorits", Ritvik and Owner of "Zohan Indi" Zohan were quiet excited about the finales.

The crucial toss followed, which was won by Strikers. Strikers chose to strike without any hesitation. There were lot of talks about the rivalry and mind games between Zorits and Strikers since last couple of days. The same was reflected in yesterday's finals as well. There were many ups and downs during the entire match and Zorits were leading with huge margin since begining. Strikers fought hard and came from behind in no time.

Due to public demand CPL Commissioner Nitin Asati Aka Mr. Modi called up strategic timeout. The players took their time off and enjoyed delicious Pizzas, Beverages (Only Tea, Pepsi and Sprite) and refreshments.

However, after the timeout as was seen during many previous CPL matches, Strikers lost the control over the match and Zorits closed the same in no time thereby claiming the CPL championship. Many handshakes happened thereafter and everyone enjoyed this thrilling contest.

During the post match press conference, CPL Commissioner, Nitin Asati Aka Mr. Modi gave an inspiring speech mentioning 10 times that CPL is clean and non-scripted. There are rumors in media that the CPL High Command Body would study the entire CPL event and would decide over Mr. Modi's future in next few weeks.

Honorable chief guests Diya, Ritvik and Zohan cut the "Carrom Shaped Cake" specially prepared for this occasion. This was followed by an Award ceremony wherein "Reward Certificates" and “Medals from Dubai” were presented by franchisees to all the participants of the 7 teams. Little Diya was so excited about the CPL concept that she announced the launch of her new Team for the next CPL season. The name of the new team would be declared soon.

It was great experience being part of such fun filled live event. On behalf of "TimePass" news, we would like to thank you all for your support and cooperation to make CPL Season 1 a huge success. Due to the match-fixing controversy there were many anxious moments. However, thanks to the audience who stood by us in thick and thins.

Hopefully, we'll be back with CPL season 2 soon. Till then good bye and good luck!

CPL - Day 4

Road To Semis

April 23 2010,11.00am

Reported by Kamlesh Jadhav

Strikers

Strikers have won their all three league matches and are clear table toppers for Group A with 6 points. Both Soumya and Kamlesh have shown great consistency and focus on the game so far.

In their first league match against "Fenny Tadi", they simply outplayed their opponents and won the match by 2-1. In their next match against the toughest opponents "Zorits", they kept their cool under pressure and won that encounter with the score of 2-1. Their third match against "Serial Killars" was a thriller, which lasted for more than 40 minutes. Serial Killars were simply terrific on that day. However, it was Strikers who had the final laugh, as they managed to seal the victory with 2-1 again.

Strikers would meet "Zohan Indi", the most controversial opponents in the Semis. Only thing, Strikers couldn't manage to do well so far is call at the Toss, as they have lost all 3 tosses so far. And if they get that right, we may see the Strikers strike heavily in Semis.

TwiKings

Twi Kings have Gopi and Vidula, a great combination that is surging forward in spite of all odds. They are famous for holding their nerves in crunch games. They have dominated Group B by winning both their encounters and are sitting at the top of the table with 4 points.

In their first match against Spiders they started slowly but finally secured a convincing victory with 2-1 score. Their next match against "Zohan Indi" was bit tough, considering the fact that "Zohan Indi" tried their level best to distract their game play. Bribes of Parathas, Panner offered by "Zohan Indi" player, Renu was the most controversial news. However, Renu and Nitin refused to talk to our reportes on the camera about this. Finally the TwiKings were thru due to suicidal shot by Nitin at the end.

Patience and steady gameplay are strength of the "TwiKings". They would meet "Zorits" in the Semis who are known for similar strengths. It would be surely clash of the titans and a mouth-watering contest to watch.

Zorits

Zorits have uncle and Saurabh as their warriors and are improving day by day. Their strength is the fantastic tuning between both Saurabh and Uncle. They ended up second on the point’s table of Group A with 6 points

In their first match against "Serial Killars" they simply outclassed their opponents and won by huge margin of 3-0. There were certain questions raised in the media about bribery and match fixing after dismal display by "Serial Killars". But it was sheer performance of "Zorits" which saw them thru. Their next encounter against "Fenny Tadi" was one of the toughest matches so far in the CPL. Tony; the Star Player of "Fenny Tadi" was injured and was struggling. Zorits took this advantage and sealed their Semi's Birth in this thriller with 2-1 score. Zorits then clashed with mighty "Strikers" in their next match and went down struggling with 1-2. In spite of their defeat against "Strikers" they won the hearts of the audience with fine display.

Zorits would meet "TwiKings" in the Semis and if they continue the way they are going now, they would be very well the contenders for CPL.

Zohan Indi

"Zohan Indi" is the most controversial team in this CPL season, who likes to distract their opponents and cash on the advantage. This duo is comprised on Nitin and Renu. No one thought that they would even reach Semis when CPL began. But after beating Spiders in a thriller they managed to seal their place in Semis with 3 Points from Group B

Nitin has quoted that "Zohan Indi is the only team who can win the CPL. Bolnese Bahut kuchh hota hain". Kamlesh from "Strikers" has responded saying "Bolne se kuchh nahi hota, karnese Hota hai". Well we need to wait and watch as "Zohan Indi" takes on "Strikers" in the Semis

Spiders Caught In Their Web

April 23 2010,11.00am

Match 5 - Spiders Vs TwiKings

In an exciting match played between Spiders and TwiKings, it was TwiKings who had the last laugh. Spiders seemed to be under tremendous pressure as it was a must win match for them following their loss against Zohan Indi last night.

TwiKings won the first game convincingly. However, Spiders bounced back winning the second game. They were very well placed in the 3rd but couldn't hold on to their nerves till the end.

However, in spite of their defeat, Spiders have won the heart of audience, with their sparkling performances and involvement in the game. Our reporter got behind the scence with audience and got news that Suhas from Spiders practiced for 5 hours for this important match.

The morale of the story is ... "Spiders spun web for themselves and now are out of the CPL competetion"

Match 4 - Serial Killars Vs Zorits

In a tame match played between Serial Killars and Zorits, the formers were simply outclassed by outstanding performance by Zorits. Both uncle and Saurabh played with great urgency and team work to claim their first win in the CPL competetion.

Serial Killars having lost their first two encounters are almost out of the contest unless they win their next encounter against mighty Strikers convincingly.

Ritvik was very disappointed after his Mom's match and even refused to talk to us on the camera. However, later when he saw his Dadu won the game, he was very happy and promised us to be the honarable guest during CPL award ceremony next week.

Well, the Serial Killars still have outside chance of making to the Semis. But for that to happen they need miracle. Stay tuned ...

2.‘Game’ shall be called a ‘set’.

3.A time of two minutes shall be allowed between the 1st & 2nd sets and also between 2nd & 3rd sets. Players shall be allowed to consult their coaches during intervening time of two minutes.

4.Players are not allowed to leave the playing arena till the match is completed.

5.In the 3rd set, side shall be changed after two boards.

6.A player shall not take more than 10 seconds to make a stroke and/or to place the penalty/due.

7.A maximum of 11 points can be scored in a 'board'. Any due and/or c/m shall automatically be written off.

10.Queen is not required to be covered.

11.The player shall not lose the advantage of getting the credit of two points for pocketing Queen even if reaches the score of 21 or 22 points. In other words, a player shall get two points for pocketing Queen at all stages of the set without any consideration of the score.

12.A player has the right to pocket the Queen provided a c/m of his own has already been pocketed.

13.Queen can be pocketed even after pocketing one's all his nine white or black c/m.

14.In case a player pockets all his c/m while the Queen is on the board, the board will not be treated as over. He can pocket the Queen as the last c/m. If he pockets, he wins the board. If he fails, the turn will pass on to the opponent. The opponent can choose to pocket the

15.Queen either at the beginning or in between or in the end. If after pocketing of Queen, few c/m remain on the board, he shall continue his turn till he is able to pocket the remaining c/m. On pocketing all his c/m and the Queen, he wins the board by 2 points since his opponent has already pocketed all his c/m. If he fails to pocket any of the remaining c/m, he will lose the board with the number of c/m lying on the board.

16.Reporting time shall be five minutes before the scheduled time. A player shall lose the entire match if he fails to report to the Umpire at his match Board 5 minutes before the scheduled time of the match.

17.During those five minutes, umpires would complete all the formalities as required by them and in the meantime players may have trial testing of the board for two minutes to be completed before the scheduled time of the match.

18.Matches shall start right at the scheduled time.

19.In case the score of both the players at the end of four boards is equal, the set will be decided on the basis of TIE-BREAKER. In tie-breaker both the players will be given three chances alternatively to pocket a c/m from the same side they are already sitting.

20.Tie-breaker c/m will be placed by the Umpire within the outer circle touching the line of the outer circle in straight line of the center circle on the opposite side of the player pocketing the c/m.

21.If score remains equal even after the tie-breaker, the set shall be decided by ‘sudden death’.

22.In sudden death, both the players will be given a chance each to pocket the tie-breaker c/m from the same side they are already sitting. After availing one chance by each player, if a player fails to pocket the c/m, he loses the set. The same shall continue till a decision is arrived at.

23.First stroke for both ‘tie-breaker’ and ‘sudden death’ shall be decided by a single toss. Winner can either choose the stroke or the side. In case the winner chooses the break, the loser shall have the right to choose the side or vice versa.

24.As soon as any player places the striker on the surface of the board when it is not his turn or for making an out of turn stroke, the umpire shall immediately declare the foul and the board should not be awarded against that player. Both the umpire and the opponent shall share the responsibility of being vigilant.

25.The written protest shall be submitted within 5 minutes of completion of that particular Board. The decision of the

26.Championship/Tournament authorities should be conveyed to the parties concerned at the earliest possible.

27.Matches for cadets, sub-junior and junior players may be conducted with time limit of 20 minutes for each set and total time limit of 70 minutes for each match (including reporting/trial testing time plus two minutes time between 1st & 2nd and 2nd & 3rd sets).

28.The Chapter of Queen as given in ‘Laws of Carrom’ of ICF is changed accordingly.

29.All other rules except those mentioned above shall be applicable as provided in ‘Laws of Carrom’ of the International Carrom Federation.

started building on Fenny as the matches progresses because of hidden gems
of Strikers......first game was a quick one and Fenny Tadi could not hold

Carrom and Trigonometry

Carrom requires controlled flicking skills – and a strong understanding of trigonometry.
Let's see how many of you remember your school days.
Please see the following video on YouTube and refresh your memories of algebra and geometry.

Hmmm...I know what you are thinking. If you would have known that the carrom trignometry calculus connection in the childhood you must have been somewhere else(I guess better than TCS as I have seen many of you are very good at it).Just kidding!!!
Jokes appart if you blend the game with your studies you will know your subject much better with practical application.
At the same time you can learn and also play.
Many of us have the misunderstanding that if the child plays a lot he/she may get distracted from the studies. But that's not true because many of us don't know that most of the games are the application of science and maths.
My friends used to wonder when we were littile that how my Papa taught me how to play carrom, playing cards etc. Many of us still think that playing with cards is bad habbit.Well it lots depend on what you play.(You don't have to gamble each time you play with cards:)
Playing such games make you allert, spontaneous, calculative and for all parents it also strengthen your maths.
Believe me if you will use your child skills in games in his/her studies they will be haapy to sit during their studytime instead of making excuses.

What is Carrom?

The standardized Indian game is played on a board of lacquered plywood, normally with a 29 inch (74 cm) square playing surface. The object of the game is to strike or flick with a finger a comparatively heavy disk called a "striker" such that it contacts lighter object disks called "carrom-men" and propels them into one of four corner pockets.

Carrom-men

A carrom-man is a usually wooden uniform small disk used in playing carrom. The Carrom-men have a smooth movement in a flat position on the surface of the carrom board when hit by a striker of standard specification. The carrom-men come in two colors denoting the two players (or, in doubles play, teams). Traditionally, these colors are white (or unstained) and black.

ICF-sanctioned pieces must have a diameter of no more than 3.18 cm and no less than 3.02 cm, and must be between 7 mm and 9 mm thick, with an edge that is round and plain, and a weight of 5–5.5 g.

The queen

The red queen or "match-taker" coin/seed, is the most powerful carrom piece. It is placed at the center of the circle.A player has the right to pocket the queen and to cover it provided a carrom-man of the player's own has already been pocketed and if pockets opponents piece then he looses. In other way, if a player sinks the opponents coin while trying to cover the queen, the queen comes out and is placed on the center, the opponent's coin stays down, and the player loses his turn.

The striker

The striker is a larger, heavier piece, flicked with the finger to hit the carrom-men and knock them into the corner pockets or into each other. According to the laws by ICF, the striker "shall be smooth and round, with a diameter not more than 4.13 cm.".

Powder

Fine-grained powder is used on the board to enable the pieces to slide easily. Boric acid powder is the most commonly used for this purpose.
